New-build electric MG Roadster recreation announced

16th September 2018

RBW Classic Electric Cars have announced that they are going to build an electric powered version of MG's iconic Roadster in 2019. It will be built in limited numbers, at their premises in Shenstone, Staffordshire, using new bodyshells supplied in partnership with British Motor Heritage.

Zytek, part of Continental AG, will supply the electric engines and infrastructure, which will enable this EV to reach 0-60mph (97km/h) in 8 seconds, with a top speed of 105mph (169km/h). Zytek provide the components for winning Le Mans cars and the cars that have won Formula E racing three years in a row. Fully charged the car will have a range of over 155 miles, depending on road conditions and driving style etc.

The Roadster will be available in either left or right hand drive, with test drives offered from May 2019. The price will be £83,000 plus taxes, with deliveries of the first orders following in the summer. Next on RBW's list is an EV recreation of the Jaguar XKSS.
